Love Is Like A Garden

I believe that love
is like a garden
planted with the most delicate seeds
it must be tended carefully,
fed with understanding and trust
and watered
with tears of compassion
and forgiveness.

If either partner forgets to do this
then the weeds of frustration
anger
and hurt take root,
and grow quickly,
soon to smother our love
One day,
we take time to look,
closely,
and the flowers of love are gone
Only the weeds of anger,
and discontent
are left

Then we must make a choice
Do we live in a garden of weeds?
Or do we clear it out?
A horrible choice
One that breaks our hearts
A choice we would never have to make
if we only remembered
to feed our love
with understanding,
trust
and forgiveness.

Pure love and suspicion can not dwell together:
at the door where the latter enters,
the former makes its exit.
